Youth Ministries
Youth are extremely important here at Cairo FUMC. We offer a variety of programs to meet the needs of all youth, grades 6 through 12. We urge you to find something that works for you and get plugged in. Something is missing if you are not here! Be sure to scroll to the bottom to check upcoming events and programs!
SUNDAY SCHOOL
Sundays, 9:50 a.m. - 10:50 a.m.
All students, grades 6 - 12, meet in the youth house for announcements and fellowship and then quickly break into small groups. This fall semester we are pleased to introduced the following classes:
6th - 8th Grade: "Why Jesus?" series: Tailored specifically to adolescent minds, videos and lessons introduce our middle school students to who Jesus is.
9th & 10th Grade: Real Life Study: developed to address practical teenage life, these month-by-month studies address everyday situations.
11th & 12th Grade: Book Study: Lessons based on mainstream Christian literature & reading. We are currently reading The Case for Christ.
Grouped by age, these students are team taught by trusted adults from the church family.
"BIBLE TALK"
Sundays, 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
Formerly United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF), "Bible Talk" is a time for students to come together and enjoy fellowship with one another as they discuss practical matters from their lives and those of their peers. Through concise bible studies that address questions or concerns as they are presented, "Bible Talk" teaches youth and new Christians how to integrate Christian concepts into their "daily walk and talk" by utilizing the knowledge and wisdom of scripture to develop real life solutions.
We also use this time to plan some awesome events such as: swimming, kayaking, river tubing, paintball, skiing, lake trips, and more! We just finished a scavenger hunt and have some amazing videos to share.
YOUTH: Epicenter Youth Ministry
Wednesdays, 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Each Wednesday evening following the church wide supper and fellowship, the youth gather in the youth house for a night of worship, teaching, and discipleship.
More information regarding Wednesday night meetings and youth events to come!
Reflection (the worship)
A time of worship is provided through games, music, reading, prayer, and praise. As God's image bearers, we worship Him by allowing Him to change us, making us into a better reflection of our Creator. Both in having fun and through our talents we glorify God in all that we do.
Blitz (the teaching)
Meant to cover a great deal of material in a short amount of time, Youth Director, Jeremy Wellman, speaks on topics relevant to today's youth.
We are getting ready to begin answering the question "What is sin?". We'll begin that session this Wednesday night. You don't wanna miss it!
Jam Session (the discipleship)
Questions, comments, or rude remarks? Now's the time to voice these as students will engage in break out sessions to talk about their concerns and address questions about what they've been taught.
"CINEMAGOGUE": Film & Theology
Tuesdays (as scheduled), 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Movie theaters are modern day pulpits. Whether they know it or not, people flock to their local multiplex and let hollywood directors and screen writers influence how they feel, how they think, and how they act in their daily lives. Art may reflect life, but life also reflects art. We believe that the creative impulse comes from our Creator. People are made in God's image and likeness, and God Himself is the master storyteller. Film and theology is just one way in which we engage culture and recognize that art and entertainment is not mindless. Directly or indirectly it speaks volumes about our lives, our spirituality, and even about our view of God.
TUTORING
Tuesdays (seeking to schedule more), 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
It is a foundational belief at Cairo FUMC that education is an invaluable life tool. In accordance with this truth, we hope to offer tutoring on a regular basis. Helping students with their school work impresses upon excellence through scholastic achievement and demonstrates the synergy between scholarly discipline and that of biblical study. Students spend a great deal of their time in the classroom. This program is meant to bring about relevant change through assistance in a practical way.
